Iowa Trenchless has completed numerous trenchless pipe installations in various soil conditions for our company. They have successfully performed auger boring, rock boring and pipe ramming operations. These have included a 60″ rock bore under Devil’s River in Manitowoc, Wisconsin and a 54″ pipe ram under the East River in DePere, Wisconsin. The East River bore was scheduled to be an auger bore, however, upon excavation of the bore pit, the soils proved to be a wet sandy silt with cobbles. Iowa Trenchless evaluated the conditions and, using their expertise, recommended a revision to pipe ramming. This change was made and the crossing was successfully completed.

The Iowa Trenchless team worked hard from the very beginning to make this project a success. To say the project was a challenge would be an understatement. Boulders the size of a pickup truck, along with utility, railroad and other constraints created challenges that would stump even the most seasoned contractors. Despite that, the management, dedication and expertise of the Iowa Trenchless personnel shined through, meeting every obstacle head-on – literally- and performed exceptionally. The crew from Iowa Trenchless was organized and responsive, working diligently to complete the project.  We were very pleased with the teamwork, cooperation and performance of the Iowa Trenchless team, and would not hesitate to hire them again on the next challenging project.

Through solid coordination and teamwork, their personnel identified the inherent challenges for a tunneling project in this location, including the use of multiple trenchless methods, unusually long tunnels, and unexpected geotechnical obstacles. By identifying the challenges early in this job, these contractors were able to collaborate with our team to creatively modify the design, into a complex – but possible – project. Their teamwork, and their staff’s industry experience, helped us to overcome challenges with a proactive, cost-effective approach, and allowed the project to be completed successfully.
