Iowa Trenchless is delivering multiple trenchless installations in Blair, Nebraska, supporting a new 36-inch high-service water main that will connect the city’s water treatment plant to the Cargill facility—critical infrastructure for one of the region’s largest employers.
The project includes navigating beneath two Union Pacific railroad tracks and U.S. Highway 30, requiring four casing bores and two HDD installations. One major challenge was identifying remnants of an old trestle bridge buried beneath the rail lines. To avoid potential conflicts, the crew used an Akkerman Guided Boring Machine (GBM) to proactively probe for obstructions, ensuring safe and accurate bore paths.
A major accomplishment on this project was a 280-foot bore, with 220 feet completed in a single day using permalock casing—a testament to Iowa Trenchless’ speed and precision.
Under the leadership of Foreman Jeremy Steeve and crew members Justin Jungles, Mason Jones, and Tony Curry, the team continues progressing toward the remaining bore under Industrial Park Drive. When complete, the new water main will secure long-term, reliable service for Cargill’s operations and the surrounding community.
