The Kansas Department of Transportation’s major expansion of the K-10/South Lawrence Trafficway is transforming a vital regional corridor—and Iowa Trenchless is playing a critical role beneath the surface. As part of this multi-phase highway project, the City of Lawrence is relocating over 4,500 linear feet of water main and 2,500 linear feet of sanitary sewer to clear the way for new roadway construction.

Iowa Trenchless was selected for this highly technical effort due to its ability to install utilities under active highways using trenchless methods that minimize disruption. Crews are completing multiple guided boring and pipe jacking installations ranging from 24″ to 73.5″ steel casing, including a 390-foot crossing for a new 48″ sanitary sewer. Working in both soft and hard ground, the team has already completed more than 800 feet of casing using the Akkerman 240A GBM system, custom rock tooling, and precision trenchless techniques.

By completing these crossings ahead of roadway construction, Iowa Trenchless is helping enable a safer, expanded K-10 corridor while supporting long-term regional growth.
